The Kedarkantha trek in Uttarkhand is well-loved by beginners and experienced trekkers alike. It is an ideal first trek to set foot into the trekking world.
For anyone who wants to start the Kedarkantha trek from Pune, this blog provides all the information you’ll need to plan your travel.
The trek begins from the Sankri basecamp and climbs up to 12,500 feet. During the trek, you get to experience the views of several mighty peaks of the Himalayas including, Mt. Swargarohini, Mt. Black Peak (Kalanag), and Mt. Bandarpoonch. You will also encounter several fresh-water streams en route to the Kedarkantha summit.
Starting from Pune you can take the following modes of transport to reach Delhi
You may consider the following modes for your journey from Delhi to Dehradun
From Dehradun to Sankri basecamp (198 km), you can opt for any only of these modes—
Our breakfast will be at Kempty Falls, Mussoorie. This drive ensues going past Mussoorie & other local quaint villages. It promises you a spectacular view of the distant peaks as you draw nearer to the Holy Yamuna River. You travel on twisty roads and have stunning views of forest-laden hills from your window. We drive along the banks of the River Tons, which later emerges as River Supin.
This road journey will have you imagining yourself as the main character in a music video.
We’ll stop at Purola for Lunch, where you can enjoy local food and cuisine. After Purola, our next stop is the Sankri village, which lies within the Govind Pashu Vihar National Park & Sanctuary.
Within the last few years, Sankri has come to be known as a bustling hub for trekkers owing to the number of treks in the region. In the peak season of December and January, Sankri is as crowded as Manali Mall Road. We always recommend that you plan your Kedarkantha Trek in February and early March to avoid the large crowds.
We will stay overnight in a homestay/guest house. From here we have a striking view of a dramatic sunset in the valley. This is where your trek leader will brief you about all elements of the upcoming trek, and then a hearty dinner will be served.
We will set off on our trek early the next morning after a filling and nutritious breakfast.
