Day 1Arrive in Manali

Altitude: 2,050 m (6,725 ft)

You will be arriving in the beautiful town of Manali today. Upon your arrival, you will check into the hotel reserved for you. The wonderful staff at the hotel will take care of your needs during your stay. You can explore all that Manali offers, including its many attractions. If you need to purchase any last-minute supplies for the expedition, you can do so in Manali. The town is also a great place to enjoy some downtime before the adventure begins.

As you make your way back to the hotel, be sure to meet up with the rest of your team. You’ll want to get acquainted with them as soon as possible – after all, you’ll be spending a lot of time with them soon. We will all gather at 4 PM, where you’ll be briefed about your upcoming Mt. Yunam Expedition by your expedition leader. If there are any questions, this is the time to ask them.

And if needed, you’ll also have a chance to try on your equipment. Make sure everything is fitting comfortably- you don’t want anything impeding your journey. After all of that, it’ll finally be time for some rest before the big expedition. Get a good night’s sleep, because tomorrow will be a big day.

Day 2Manali to Jispa

Distance: 93 km
Time: 3 Hours (Drive)
Altitude: 3,200 m (10,500 ft)

The Mt. Yunam Peak Expedition is going to be an incredible experience! We’ll be starting our journey on the beautiful Manali – Leh Highway. Our travels will take us today to Jispa. The Atal Tunnel has made the journey much shorter, and now it can be completed in just 3 hours. So we’ll start comfortably after breakfast.

The landscape around you changes as soon as you come out of the tunnel to the other side. The rich green meadows fade away, giving way to the fruitless barren slopes of the cold dessert. We continue on our journey to Jispa, passing through the charming mountain towns of Sissu and Keylong.

As we travel along the highway, we’ll be surrounded by stunning mountain scenery. We’ll pass through small villages and towns, getting a glimpse into the traditional way of life in this region. Eventually, we’ll reach Jispa, where we’ll set up camp for the night.

After we’ve settled in, we’ll explore the surrounding area. This is a great opportunity to get acclimated to the altitude. Be sure to drink plenty of water and stay active. In the evening, we’ll enjoy a beautiful sunset before returning to camp for dinner. Then it’s time to get some rest so we can be well-prepared for the exciting journey ahead. Mt. Yunam Peak is waiting!

Day 3Jispa to Bharatpur

Distance: 57 km
Time: 3 Hours (Drive)
Altitude: 4,500 m (14,760 ft)

After a lovely breakfast in Jispa, we will load our backpacks with the necessary supplies for our Mt. Yunam Peak Expedition and start on the drive to Bharatpur. Bharatpur is the basecamp for this exciting expedition. The Mt. Yunam Peak is a thrilling challenge that awaits us!

As we drive, we will witness the beauty of Suraj Tal, Deepak Tal and the famous Baralacha La. As we’re about to reach the Bharatpur campsite, we will get a glimpse of Mt. Yunam Peak standing in grandiose on the other side of the highway.

Bharatpur is at an altitude of 4500 m, a considerably high altitude. So, it is normal to experience some symptoms of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness), such as headache, nausea, and lack of sleep. You must drink plenty of water and eat proper food to acclimatize to the high altitude.

We’ll camp at Bharatpur overnight and get a good night’s sleep to prepare for our Mt. Yunam Peak Expedition the next day!

Day 4Load Ferry to Mt. Yuman Peak Basecamp

Distance: 10 km
Time: 8 Hours
Altitude: 5,200 m (17,060 ft)

This is the day that we will be doing our first rotation up to the basecamp of Mt. Yunam Peak. We will be carrying all of our gear up to the higher altitude to acclimatize to the thinner air. This is an important step in our journey, and it is one that we will take very seriously.

We must start early because we’ll need to cross a river on our way. The water in the river stream increases significantly in the evening because of the melting snow of glaciers. So, we’ll need to head back as soon as possible to cross the stream safely.

The route to the base camp starts from the other side of the highway by navigating amidst wildflowers. The way will be winding, but you’ll eventually make it to the river bank. From there, we’ll make a chain and cross the river safely.

After crossing the river, the trail becomes steep all the way to the base camp. Moreover, the trek to base camp will seem gruelling today because of the high altitude. Take your time, rest when you need to and drink plenty of fluids. You’ll be able to make it to the base camp if you take it slow.

Once we reach the base camp, we rest and have our packed lunch. We’ll stay for some time to let our body acclimatize itself and head back to Bharatpur.

This is an important day, and we want everyone to be safe while completing the first rotation. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids, eat well and get a good night’s sleep.

Day 5Bharatpur to Mt. Yunam Base Camp

Distance: 5 km
Time: 4 Hours
Altitude: 5,200 m (17,060 ft)

After a nutritious breakfast, we will set off towards Mt. Yunam Base Camp. The journey is quite long, but we will make good time by following the same path we took yesterday. By now, your bodies would have better acclimatized to the altitude, making the trek seem easier than yesterday.

When we reach Mt. Yunam Base Camp, we will set up our tents and take a well-deserved break. The base camp is very windy, so it is important to protect yourself from the elements and rest your body. Make sure to drink plenty of fluids to help acclimatize naturally.

In the evening, we will have some snacks and tea, after which you are free to explore the area around the base camp. Dinner will be served in the base camp itself.

Make sure to get a good night’s rest so that you are well-prepared for the challenge ahead.

Day 6Acclimatization at Mt. Yunam Peak Base Camp

We’ll spend the day getting acclimatised to the altitude and the environment before climbing Mt. Yunam Peak. After breakfast, we’ll explore the surrounding area. There is a beautiful high altitude alpine lake near the basecamp. We’ll explore the area, take pictures and enjoy the view.

After lunch, we will have a practice session in which you will be briefed about equipment and its usage. We will practice negotiating snow glaciers that you will cross during the expedition. You need to practice and get used to the climbing gear including crampons, harnesses, and climbing boots. Get familiar with your equipment and learn how to properly arrest your slope falls. After the practice session, we’ll rest and enjoy the view.

Dinner will be served early because we have to get an early start tomorrow. You’ll need all the rest you can get before the big day. Tomorrow, we’ll summit Mt. Yunam Peak!

Day 7Base Camp to Mt. Yunam Summit & back

Distance: 6.5 km
Time: 10 Hours
Altitude: 6,111 m (20,050 ft)

This is the most important day of the trek. The trek to the summit of Mt. Yunam will start at around 2 in the morning. The way to the summit is a steep climb; you will be climbing through moraines, glaciers, snow and scree clad trail to reach the summit. At this point, you might be feeling tired, but it is important to push through and continue the trek.

Remember, you are embarking on an amazing expedition that will take you to the top of Mt. Yunam Peak! Keep going and enjoy the views from the summit! You will be able to see the magnificent view of the beautiful peaks and Chandra Bhaga (CB) & Mulkilla mountain ranges adjoining the summit.

Although it is a tough trek, the view from the top is just as rewarding as the gruelling trek. Amidst the mountain ranges, the location of Mt. Yunam Peak is picturesque. So, don’t forget to take some time to enjoy the view and snap some pictures!

After spending some time at the summit and having packed lunch, you will descend to the base camp. Once you reach the base camp, have dinner and get a well-earned rest.

Day 8Base Camp to Bharatpur & Drive to Manali

After a final breakfast together, we will say goodbye to Mt. Yunam and return down the mountain. Descending the slopes, we’ll marvel at all of the wonderful memories made during our expedition. Arriving in Bharatpur, we’ll board our vehicles and be driven back to Manali. You’ll reach Manali by 6 PM.

We’ll refresh and meet up to celebrate the summit and the journey. Friends from the mountains are friends forever. We’ll have a sharing session where you’ll get a chance to narrate the best memories of the expedition!

Best Time For Mt. Yunam Peak Expedition

Mt. Yunam Temperature & Weather

Based on various factors such as weather conditions, temperature, and other related considerations, July and August are the best months of the year to head out to this wonderful mountain.

During the monsoon season, which begins in late June and lasts until August, the weather is generally stable and predictable in this region of the Himalayas, which provides an ideal environment for a fruitful and smooth climb. Trekkers experience less rainfall during this period and can enjoy clear and stable blue skies, which offer stunning panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayas.

Furthermore, the snow that capes the mountain during the winter is melting, and the trail becomes more accessible as one can trek to the summit without any complications. This makes the climb less challenging and safer for trekkers, while still providing them with a thrilling experience.

The temperature during July and August is also moderate, ranging from 15 to 25 degrees Celsius during the daytime. However, at night, the temperature may drop to 0 degrees Celsius, which necessitates the hiker to keep warm clothing to stay comfortable. It is also important to note that the weather may change suddenly and trekkers must always be prepared for sudden changes.
