During this period, you can also expect some snow in higher altitudes which adds an extra layer of beauty to your trekking experience.

In addition to summer, the post-monsoon season (September-December) is also considered an ideal time for this hike. During these months, you will get clear skies with temperatures ranging between 5-15 degrees Celsius. However, it’s important to note that the monsoon season (July-August) should be avoided as heavy rains can make the terrain difficult and dangerous.

When it comes to temperature and weather conditions on the trek itself, it’s important to be prepared for all kinds of conditions. In general, you should expect cold nights at higher altitudes with temperatures dropping below 0 degrees Celsius at times. During daytime hours, however, temperatures tend to be milder with highs reaching up to 20 degrees Celsius in some areas. It’s also important to note that strong winds can occur at any time so it’s always a good idea to bring along warm clothing and layers just in case.

Day 1Dehradun to Sankri

Distance: 190 km
Time: 10 hours
Altitude: 1,900 m (6,230 ft)

Today is the first day of our journey to the small hamlet of Sankri situated at a distance of 200 km from Dehradun. Arrive at Dehradun early and head off to Sankri which will take an average of 8-9 hours by road.

During the drive witness the alluring beauty of the surroundings and also enjoy the stunning views of the mountains that attract trekkers from all around the globe. A quick lunch on the way will make you feel energized and at the end of the long journey, you will finally reach the tiny hamlet of Sankri. Overnight stay will be at a hotel at Sankri.

Day 2 Sankri to Taluka (Drive, 12 Km), Trek to Seema (11.8 Km / 4.5 Hours)

After having breakfast at Sankri, get ready for the first day of the Har Ki Dun trek. Make sure you have enough drinking water and energy bars to keep you going. You will reach Taluka by late afternoon. After having a short break embark on your journey to Osla.

Along the way, you will travel through the Siyan Gad by a bridge to reach Dhatmir village and cross the Tons River as well. Enjoy the beauty of the sprawling wild orchids and wilderness of the surroundings. If you’re lucky you might also spot Barking Deer, Bores, Leopards, and the likes.

Spend the night in the tents provided and enjoy the quiet of nature under the starlit sky. Spend a wonderful evening with a bonfire, snacks, local folklores, and an appetizing dinner.

Day 3Seema to Kalkattiyadhaar (6 Km, 4 Hours)

After having breakfast, we will start for our trek to Kalkattiyadhaar and the initial trail is on the left side of the valley and goes past fields. After crossing a bridge over river Rupin, the trail continues on the right side of the valley and then ascends through fields, pastures, and huts.

And at last, we come across the ridge called Kalkatiyadhaar. After a short descent from the ridge, we will come across our campsite. We will have our dinner and sleep inside the comforts of our camp.

Day 4Kalkattiyadhaar to Har Ki Dun & back (8.4 Km / 6 Hours)

Wake up early and start your walk towards Har Ki Dun. The trail is initially gradual but later on, becomes quite steep as it passes through the beautiful meadows of Har Ki Dun. A small but steady stream flows by the campsite. The glistening water is made more magical by the rays of the sunshine on it.

The expanse of the Har Ki Dun valley paired with the incredible views of the snow-clad mountains towering right in front of your eyes is a view to be cherished forever. After spending some time at the top and feasting your eyes upon the splendid landscape in front, return back to the Kalkattiyadhaar camp.

Day 5Kalkattiyadhaar to Seema via Osla (7.3 Km / 3 Hours)

Wake up early to experience the alluring sunrise and the splendid views of the Swargarohini peaks from the camp. Have an early breakfast and head back to Seema. We will start by crossing the Har Ki Dun bridge and continue our walk along the river.

Initially, the climb is gradual and then it descends up to Seema. If everything goes as per plan and time permits, we will take a halt at Osla village where you can see the typical Garhwali houses and the lifestyle of the people residing there. After some time, resume your journey to Seema and stay there for a night.

Day 6 Seema to Taluka (10.5 Km / 3 Hours) and then to Sankri (Drive, 12 Km)

From here, there are two ways to descend down to Sankri. One is via Seema and the other is the shorter (but steeper) route via Puani. It collides with the main trail at the point where there is a watermill. Spend some time here understanding how watermills work.

Next comes the forest trail which is along a river. The last few minutes of the trek are through a paved trail. We will arrive at Taluka by the afternoon and after lunch, board our vehicle to reach Sankri which will take one hour or so. Check into a hotel and enjoy the completion of the trek with your mates.

Day 7 Depart from Sankri

Have your breakfast and after packing up the bags, board your vehicles for the return back to Dehradun. With this, we mark the end of our trekking services of the Har Ki Dun trek. Expect to reach Dehradun by evening.
