The trek begins from the small village of Sankri, located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. From Sankri, the trail leads through dense forests and meadows to Juda ka Talab, a high-altitude lake. The trail then ascends to Kedarkantha base camp, situated at 11,200 feet. From the base camp, the summit can be reached in a day.
The best time to trek to Kedarkantha is in the winter, from December to February, when the mountain is covered in snow. The average temperature during this time ranges from -5°C to 5°C.

Since Kedarkatha Trek starts from Sankri, you will need to cover a total distance of around 200 km from Dehradun to Sankri. You’ll need to travel from Ahmedabad to Dehradun first and then take a local bus or shared jeep from there to Sankri, which is the last motorable village, before the trek begins. The drive from Dehradun to Sankri takes about 8-9 hours.

There are a few ways to reach Dehradun from Ahmedabad.
By Flight: The quickest way to reach Dehradun is by taking a direct flight from Ahmedabad to Jolly Grant Airport, the nearest airport. The flight takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes. You can take a taxi or bus from the airport to Dehradun, about 30 km away.
By Train: Although there is no direct train from Ahmedabad to Dehradun, you can take a train to Haridwar Junction and then take a connecting train from there to Dehradun. The journey by train takes about 24 hours. You can also take a bus from Haridwar to Dehradun, which is about 55 km away. This is also the cheapest option.
By Road: It’s not advisable to drive from Ahmedabad to Dehradun as the journey is very long, about 24 hours. But if you want to travel by road, the best way is to take a bus to Delhi and then another bus from Delhi to Dehradun.
Once you reach Dehradun, you can either stay overnight or continue your journey to Sankri on the same day. We recommend you stay overnight in Dehradun to start your trip from Dehradun to Sankri early the next day.
